Sharing via Link and QR Code
McFile lets you share records and files quickly, without having to send copies by email. This article shows you where to find the sharing options and how to set up an access link or QR code.
Accessing sharing
You can start a share from three places:
- The Share button, in the top right corner of a record's page;
- The Share button shown below a record in the search results;
- The file list of a record, by selecting one or more files and clicking Share selected.
Any of these paths opens the same menu, asking How do you want to share?

Creating a link
Click New shareable link to open the access link settings. On this screen you set:
- Who can access: only users who already have access to the content, users in your environment, or anyone who receives the link.
- Permissions: what someone with access can do, such as viewing and downloading the content.
- Link expiration: how long the link keeps working, from 30 minutes up to never expiring.
- Set password: requires a password before access, if checked.
Once it's set up, click Create. The link appears right on the screen, ready to be copied.

Generating a QR code
An access QR code uses the exact same settings as a link: who can access, permissions, expiration, and password all work the same way. The only difference is the final result: instead of a link to copy, you get a QR code to share or print.
To generate one directly, click New shareable QR code link in the sharing menu, set up the options you want, and click Create. The QR code appears on the screen, ready to use.
Tip
If you start with Create a link, the settings screen shows two buttons at the bottom: Create and Generate QR code. That means even after choosing a link, you can still change your mind and generate a QR code with the same settings, just by clicking Generate QR code instead of Create.
